Narrative
Set in the 23rd century on Mars, the plot follows the investigation of a murder case led by the couple formed by private detective Aline Ruby and her android companion Carlos Rivera. He had already directed episodes of the television series Lastman (2016).

In 2018, producer Didier Creste contacted him and Laurent Sarfati, the creator and screenwriter of Lastman, to work on a film adaptation of their series. Instead, they convinced him to produce an original idea, a neo-noir science fiction animated film, for which he managed to find financing, and which would eventually become Mars Express.

Not so in this beautifully animated sci-fi crime drama
Neon scenes and expansive horizons are often used to distract from a weak story. The story strikes the perfect balance between beloved detective tropes and unexpected plot twists that don’t need to be softened by overblown futurism.
This movie should be on your list of sci-fi movies to see before you die
Despite this, the imaginative visuals clearly place the viewer in the future, pushing us just far enough into the “what could be” to maintain a believability that complements the story.
